At Nando's, I was responsible for looking after the customers and creating a friendly, welcoming environment within the restaurant. I was often tasked with settling customer disputes or queries, a role which allowed me to showcase my people skills, and patience. Furthermore, as part of the job, I had great experience behind the till, upselling, and cash handling. Lastly, and importantly, when I became a buddy (trainer), I flourished in a mentoring position, demonstrating an in-depth understanding of my job, as well as careful consideration of people management and support.
As a library assistant, I gained experience in a different working environment, gaining important skills like stocktaking and organisation. A significant part of the work involved setting up book displays, organising study groups, and keeping records. Although this was not a fast-paced workplace, the time in this role was invaluable for nurturing personal skills like teamwork, as I was part of a larger student group responsible for the maintenance of the library.
