Working in a restaurant definitely has it challenges but it also has it’s benefits I’ve learned so many new skills especially in the social aspect. It’s helped with my time management and organisation skills as it’s vital to team members around me to make sure I’m on top of taking food and drinks out and making sure the food is coming out in a decent time frame. It’s helped me massively when it comes to working under pressure and when the pressure is high to not shut down but to carry on and work swiftly and effectively. I feel like in ways it’s also a rewarding job, you meet so many different people and characters and you build relationships with people that come in knowing that you’re making a part of their day pleasant. although they are our costumers we do care about how their day is and if they enjoyed their time and their food and if they need anything I am more then happy to provide. It’s important we are maintaining attention to detail while on shift too for example seeing a mother with a child and the child is upset we offer a colouring book and some crayons and it distracts them until the food arrives, if an elderly person struggles with mobility offering to get them some water and their cutlery, making sure everyone is comfortable with the table they are sat on and offering special deals for the day incase people have missed it off our menu as I know people like a good deal.
I do also have some experience with farming my relatives own a sheep farm and work along side with a cattle farm as-well. Every year around April time I take 2 weeks to help with lambing season and ensuring the animals are in a safe and well looked after environment, making sure that they are getting all the nutrients that they need and are in well health. This has also helped with working under pressure especially when the weather can be unpredictable and sometimes work against us. I communicate well with other farmers to ensure that what I’m doing for the animals is right and I’m not doing anything dangerous that may harm myself or animals. This job can be very physically demanding as well as mentally demanding due to the long hours and is a 24/7 job if to work on it full time.
