Hi my name is Demi Downing, I am a fully qualified level 2 hairdresser , currently studying to achieve my level 3 qualification at the end of my college year around the end of may - the start of June. I am studying at Exeter college. Before joining the college , while I was still at secondary school I chose hair and beauty as one of my gcse options , from this I also gained my level 1 hairdressing qualification . I have a high experience in customer service as I have worked in hospitality since I turned 16 , I also have experience of working in a salon during my work experience week in secondary school , I have written about this on my cv. I feel I have a very clear mindset from what I would like out of getting a potential job in a salon, I would love to improve my skills and gain some more knowledge to further my education. I would love to gain some more work experiance in a salon and hopefully a job!
For me I feel as though I have known for a very long time that hairdressing is the career I would love for myself . Ever since starting my level 1 qualification to now nearly finishing my level 3 qualification my love for this job has grown over the years. I love the communication it gives you with your clients ,for example every Wednesday and Thursday at college currently we do client sessions where members of the public come in for services . This has really helped with my experience and hands on work , its my favourite part of the job .
I love nothing more than making people leave feeling amazing !
I would also love to be in a salon to be around other people who have the same interests as me and hopefully take some more knowledge from everybody around me to further my knowledge and take tips on how I can work to my full potential .
I have worked with the company lounges since I turned 16, in 2024.
I started off at the lounge based in Newton Abbot called orsino lounge.
I was there for about a year, then I moved to another lounge in Exeter , Puerto lounge which is where I currently work, I work here on a Saturday and a Sunday . Some weeks I pick up a few shifts between Monday - Friday. While working here I have built up an amazing confidence to speak to new people and provide a welcoming environment that people would like to return to. I have also learnt amazing customer service .
My time at oodeys, teignmouth was my work experience week at secondary school. While here I learnt how to maintain correct safety around a salon. I feel as this placement was during my early years of hairdressing it was very useful for me to build my confidence in working With clients . While here I was just helping around the salon to cut any foils the stylists may have needed etc . my main job was to ensure all clients that came in were happy and had a drink if requested. On some of the days I did help some of the stylists by shampooing their clients while colours were being mixed. I was very grateful that this salon took me on for the week to helpmeet build my experience of being in a real working salon and to help build my confidence . As at this time I was only working towards receiving my level 1 hairdressing qualification.
