Farm Assistant

I volunteered for two weeks at Madison's Farm in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, Australia, as part of the World  Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) programme. In this role, I had to halter train goats, work with alpacas and lamas and feed all of the animals. It was an amazing experience to live on this remote farm and learn how the business was run.

Work Experience

I gained experience in the financial sector at Cranwell Wealth Solutions in Heathfield. This involved me observing and learning what happens on a day-to-day basis in a wealth management business.

Tennis, football, snow skiing, water sports, travelling and car maintenance. 

At the start of September 2023 I went backpacking with two school friends. It was the first time any of us had been abroad without our families. I backpacked across South East Asia including Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand before finishing the adventure in Australia and New Zealand. The highlight was driving from the top to the bottom of New Zealand and visiting archaeological and historical sites along the way. I also went whale watching.

Travelling helped me to develop a number of different skills in order to ensure the adventure was successful. These included planning to ensure  our complex itinerary of flights and accommodation fitted together and problem solving when things did not go quite to plan. For example when flights were cancelled or delayed. I also learned to budget to make sure that my funds lasted me over the three and a half months of the trip. My friends didn't budget as wisely which meant we faced the challenge of camping in all different types of locations and weather in New  Zealand for the whole month I was there. We cooked every day on a small gas-powered camping stove in sometimes wet and windy conditions and had to bathe in icy cold lakes.
