Published version of my MSc Forensic Psychology dissertation which aimed to investigate and define currently abstract definitions of emotional cool-off periods in serial vs. non-serial homicide. This work was the first of its kind to question the existence and use of inoperative criteria that has been widely relied upon since its conception in 1986 by the FBI (Douglas et al., 1986). This has implications for both academic and professional homicide investigations.
