• In my role as a support worker i was responsible for providing compassionate care and support for service users. The care i provided centred on each individual need and wishes in order to give care that upholds and respects the service users’ choices and promote their dignity at all times.

My specific duties include:

• Supporting service users with food shopping, doctors appointments and day to day activities
• Assist with personal care ( showering and incontinence etc) if stated in care plan
• Assisting service users with taking medication
• Assisting at meal times
• Safely using aids and personal equipment in a manner that respects the dignity of service users

• As a domiciliary care worker I have to be visiting people in their own homes to assist with household tasks, some personal care and occasionally accompanying the client on visits such as to the doctor or hospital and sometimes work nights offering assistance to clients who require around the clock care. To enable and / or assist individuals to remain in the community, to be supported and maintained safely in their own homes and thereby enhance the quality of life. Encouraging, service user’s individuality and independence. In addition, I help service users to maintain relationships with neighbours, the neighbourhood and familiar activities and surroundings, providing social contact, especially for service users who live alone.

• Offering personal care, preparing meals, cleaning and helping with shopping.
• Administering medication and arranging medical appointments.
• Helping service users with mobility problems including incontinence.
• Making & changing beds, tidying rooms and emptying commodes etc.
• Providing advice and emotional support to clients.
• Taking part in staff and service users’ meetings and in training activities.
• Updating a service user medical records and other paperwork.
• Assisting with activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
• Helping the service user to look after their own health.
