Site Management Work Experience

Morgan Sindall
Watford
12.2023 - 02.2024

Morgan Sindall's site value manager came to my college to give a talk about the company, what they do and career paths they offer. During this talk, i gave my upmost attention and asked lots of questions. This resulted in them asking my tutor for my name and asked me to get in touch with them about a work experience program which was more competitive than the one the rest of the class was offered. This opportunity meant I had to Obtain a CSCS card and prepare for an interview at their site office at Little Redding's Primary school. I was successful in this interview and proceeded to work at the site learning about site management when i shadowed the site manager (Jack Haley). I took part in various jobs that were done on site and in the site office. These include:

  • Attending a minutes meeting with the design team manager to discuss alterations and to keep the contractor up to date.
  • Measuring heights of service ports in the SIPs to make sure they were all in the right place.
  • sending professional emails to the supplier of the panels to inform them of the mistakes made with the services and to ask for a quote on the new alterations to the panels.
  • Overseeing deliveries with the gatekeeper
  • checking through contractors RAMS documents to ensure they cover all points necessary.
  • Performing site inductions.

This experience was very valuable to me as it showed me the day to day tasks of a site manager.

Apprentice carpenter

RnB Construction
Hertford, Hertfordshire
10.2021 - 09.2022

I gained this role when I saw RnB construction building a new house. I was impressed by the forms of construction they were using and the high profile client base they had meant they built high end houses. My role was an apprentice carpenter. I had various roles such as constructing walls, roofs and I learned a lot from other trades and the whole process of a building going u from start to finish. I made sure to ask lots of questions and take in all the information i could during this time.

I learned the importance of communication on site and enjoyed liaising between the trades to fix any problems that occurred. This sparked an interest in site management so i Joined my current college course in construction management to get where i wanted to be.
