My current role requires me to work across multiple settings; I am split between working in community pharmacy and primary care.

In the community, I work on the counter and assist customers and patients with buying OTC medication, handing out prescriptions, counselling patients, assisting with queries, and aiding with services. I also undertake tasks in the dispensary by putting stock away, labelling prescriptions, dispensing, claiming, and ordering medications.
In primary care, I am based in community hospital and work across several care homes, and multiple GP surgeries, to help assist with medication reviews, queries, and help manage appointments. I also attended multidisciplinary team meetings to help answer or resolve any pharmacy questions.

  • As a hospital dispenser, I undertook a range of different roles within one job, working on rotation within the Pharmacy department in a number of different service areas. Such as dispensing accurately for patient discharge and outpatient clinics, aseptically preparing chemotherapy treatments for clinics and wards, medicines top-up service on wards and the Intensive Care Unit, and assisting with other medicines-related duties as required. This role required me to use my analytical and judgemental skills, calculate quantities of medicines accurately for dispensing, production, and ward issues, dexterity to manipulate syringes and filling devices whilst working in an isolator.

Accomplishments

  • DofE Bronze Award 2017, During my DofE I completed three months of volunteering at the YMCA, where I helped prepare events, clean, give out leaflets and more; three months dedicated to a skill, I chose to learn the piano, which I've carried on after the three months and six months to physical activity.
  • 999 Academy 2019-2021, The 999 academy is a group created by Avon and Somerset Police, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, South Western Ambulance Service and Bridgwater & Taunton College Academy for students interested in the public services line of work. I perform community engagement activities including missing person management, first aid, conflict resolution, water and hose training, road traffic collision management and communication. The mission statement of the 999 Academy is to provide knowledge and skills by raising aspirations and promoting a positive image and using the following core values: respect, inclusion, education, safety and community.
  • MHFA England Course Feb 2020, Adult Mental health awareness half-day course. This was achieved through the 999 academy.
