Fast food employee

Birmingham
08.2023 - 09.2024
  • Going from a small family owned Social Club to a popular Fish and Chip shop was quite the step up. I was thrown into the deep end on multiple occasions as my first trial shift was on a busy friday night.

  • Prepared food orders accurately to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Followed health and safety regulations strictly, enhanced workplace environment.
  • Offered timely assistance to colleagues when needed, covering shifts and swapping to help them with their day to day lives. As we were such a small team, teamwork definitely was a huge factor.

Catering assistant

John Lewis
Solihull
09.2024 - Current
  • As my first serious full-time job after finishing Alevels, this taught me many new skills. Time management, multi-tasking , teamwork and especially being a leader. It’s also helped me discover new skills within the kitchen and also start new relationships.
  • Conducted routine checks on cooking equipment for timely maintenance or replacement if necessary. Furthermore, I have completed numerous phone calls to our technicians regarding fixing equipment.
  • Assisted in training new staff members, fostering a supportive work environment. With such a strong company like John Lewis there are certain standards that have to be taught. As an individual with hospitality experience I have taken it upon myself to train new members of staff, trying to make them more comfortable and feel less intimidated.
  • Managed inventory of catering supplies, reducing waste through efficient usage and ordering practices.
  • Handled cash transactions with customers, maintaining integrity and accuracy at all times.
  • Provided excellent customer service, ensuring guest satisfaction. I have had good reviews from customers going to management and have also been used as an example as an “ excellent catering assistant “.
  • Executed food preparation tasks efficiently to meet dining deadlines. I have worked in the kitchen, preparing all the food for our servers .
  • Upheld presentation standards by arranging food items attractively on serving trays and tables. Coming into work before the shop opens to rearrange products and setting up counters.
  • Set up dining areas for special events, improving the overall ambiance. In December 2024, me and a few of my colleagues participated in “ Tea with Santa”. This involved coming in early to work to set up , decorating and preparing. We also had to work with children, feeding them, entertaining them and even helping out parents . Time management was also a huge part in this as we had to make sure everything was ready before a session due to the volume of participants, this included making batches of hot chocolate, setting up cakes, and giving out their picked items.
  • Collaborated with other team members for smooth catering operations during events. Having to work as a team to give the customer the best possible service.
  • Addressed customer questions and concerns with knowledge of menu items, ingredients and allergens. Many times I have talked customers through the menu, using the allergen folder to explain certain items.
  • Maintained high standards of food hygiene through regular checks of fridge and freezer temperatures.
  • John lewis has a high level of standards and with that I have learnt how to have a certain etiquette and level of understanding to the customers, using the older demographic as an example. Not using slang, and having a high level of understanding and knowledge.
