Having been employed by Durham Constabulary since 1991, initially a clerical officer, I joined Durham as a Police Officer in April 2002. During my employment with Durham I gained valuable life/inter-personal and administrative and investigative skills, having contact with the public on an almost daily basis. In 2007 I became a Detective Constable and worked primarily in divisonal Safeguarding in both Child and Adult Protection. In 2012 I worked on Operation Seabrook which was a complex historical safeguarding investigation into large scale physical and sexual abuse perpetrated by prison staff against young males detained within the Medomsley Detention Centre. In 2014 I transferred to the Police Multi Agency Support Hub (MASH) as a Decision Maker. Here I risk assessed large volumes of Safeguarding Referrals, signposting and sharing information with partner agencies where appropriate in order to protect vulnerable children and adults. In this role I worked closely with Social Workers and colleagues from Health/Education/Harbour/Humankind to name a few. Whilst working within MASH I also performed the role of Decision Maker on the Police Strategy Team where more acute Safeguarding risks were identified, communicating and accurately recording confidential information in a time sensitive manner. Later in August 2020 I transferred to Counter Corruption Department where I was employed as Field Intelligence Officer. My role was to identify and assess the risk of harm to the Organisation by Corruption, developing intelligence and recording accurate details, liaising with Counter Corruption Investigators where a viable threat was identified. In this role due to staff shortages/high volumes of work I also acted as Counter Corruption Investigator, dealing with both criminal investigation of Police Officers and staff and matters of Misconduct/Gross Misconduct. The work was specialised and time sensitive working to high standards and in accordance with the Police Regulatory Framework. It would be impossible to list all of my experiences as a Police Officer, however the following is a general summary of duties I have completed during my service.
Uniformed response officer providing emergency assistance and upholding law and order, covering for colleagues in specialist departments and seeking out continuous professional development. Trained in first aid / personal safety techniques/conflict management skills which I had to utilise on a regular basis. I performed emergency CPR on more than one occasion and in stressful situations. I received a St Johns Ambulance Award after performing emergency CPR on an elderly motorist who had become unconcious at the wheel and driven off the road whilst driving his motorhome.
I am recently retired from the Police Force in November 2024. I enjoyed a period of leave in the run up to my retirement and during this time I loved spending more time with my family. I took this time as an opportunity to focus more upon my own personal wellbeing, having recently turned 51 years I am now more conscious of the need to look after my health and fitness, an area which I had perhaps neglected due to the pace of life! Having had a break from employment with the Police I am now seeking opportunities that align with my values of hard work, attention to detail, professionalism and most importantly in helping others which is where I have always gained the most satisfaction. Since retirement I have returned to my childhood passion of horse riding (after a 30 year absence) and I have also joined a gym where I enjoy cardio fitness and resistance training. I have enjoyed the last 6 months focussing on becoming the best version of myself, however having had a very busy and stressful career within Policing I have discovered that I am not ready yet to give up work entirely! I have two young children aged 12yrs and 9yrs of age and I want to continue to work, and be a positive role model for them. I see this vacancy as the perfect opportunity to draw upon my professional and life experience working as part of a time to deliver excellence, whilst still being afforded the right balance between work and home life. I feel that I can bring a lot to the Spire from my experiences working for Durham Constabulary. I am a warm and friendly individual and can communicate with people at all levels. I find it easy to build a rapport with people in order to gain the fullest information, and I pay attention to detail, always respecting diversity, inclusivity and confidentiality. I believe my past experience will make me a great candidate and I would relish the chance to join the team. I will always strive to deliver the best possible service and would relish the chance to work for and represent Spire Healthcare.
