Summary

I have a keen interest in joinery, hence applying for, and gaining a conditional offer on the apprenticeship joinery course at Barnsley College. I have already gained some experience within this field working with my dad at his company, AJT Joinery. The team work on different jobs has given me a good insight into how the world of work within the construction industry can be.

This, along with my work on the gaming van has enabled me to appreciate how important excellent customer service skills are when working within a team, and face to face with the public. Being polite, professional and approachable are key, which I believe are fully transferable to the role of apprentice joiner.

In my spare time I enjoy kickboxing and train regularly in the evening. I took part in my first amateur fight last year which I won. This was due to the pro-active approach, dedication and consistency I had towards the training regime, as well as my drive and focus to be the best I could be.

Although I already have good transport links where I live, as well as parents who can help me travel to different places of work I plan to start my driving lessons in December 2025 to enable travel to and from work as easy as possible.

Work History

Customer service assistant

Steel City Arcade gaming van
South Yorkshire
08.2024 - Current

Working on the mobile gaming van at parties and small festivals has taught me the importance of exceptional customer service skills. The job involves handling cash transactions, helping with queries and offering advice, as well as maintaining a clean and tidy work environment in between clients.

By ensuring a fun and effective environment for the children and adults who use the van I can maximise future bookings for the business.

Labourer (joiner)

ATJ Joinery
South Yorkshire
01.2024 - Current

Working alongside my dad as a labourer for his company has taught me some valuable lessons about working in the industry I want to build a career in.

I have undertaken numerous tasks under supervision, such as assisting with the demolition of existing structures, help to construct partitions, dry walling, door hanging and boxing in pipe work. I have gained a good foundation of knowledge with regards to using the different tools relevant to joinery already. This work experience has also given me a good awareness of the guidelines relating to PPE and safety procedures to ensure an accident free work site.

My level of physical strength means I have no issues with labour duties including heavy lifting, transporting equipment and site maintenance.
