An aspiring pilot having the opportunity of flying with the RAF Air Cadets gave me hands-on experience which cemented that this is the career path that I want to follow and also helped me develop key skills for becoming a pilot. Controlling a Piper Cub taught me how to stay calm, focused, and follow instructions carefully. I also gained confidence working in a team and communicating clearly to the instructor both in the air and on the ground when explaining procedures. For the last year I have worked in customer service, server providing important information for the customers and I have learned how to stay calm when things become busier, speak clearly with customers and stay focused and accurate especially when dealing with money ensuring that I follow procedure correctly. Working on a till has also taught me time management and responsibility. I’ve had to stay organised, manage tasks quickly. All of these experiences have helped me grow the skills necessary for higher level of study and pilot training.
