During my job in Royal Stoke Hospital as ST1 Doctor I covered Respiratory ward (Non-Invasive Ventilation) and Gastroenterology for the rest of the tenure My On-call cover included Acute Medical Unit and Out of hours ward cover + Cardiac Resuscitation .

My responsibilities included:

  • History taking, doing detailed examination, making differentials and chalking out appropriate management plan and then discussing the same with my consultant.
  • Completing patients' files, writing follow-ups, presenting my assigned patients to the consultant every day and writing their discharge summaries.
  • Patients' Counselling.
  • Performing minor procedures such as Venepuncture, Arterial blood gas sampling, IV cannulation, etc.
  • Teaching undergraduates, history taking and examination on bedside.
  • Performing procedures such as naso-gastric tube insertion, catheterization, lumber puncture with and without supervision.
  • Picking common findings on ECGs, Chest x rays and CT scans.
  • In cases of emergency performed basic treatment after consultation with seniors.
