Sumayyah Shaheen

I am a passionate and dedicated primary (ECT) teacher with experience working across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in a range of primary school settings, including mainstream education and Special Educational Needs (SEND) provision. I am committed to creating inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential. I have strong classroom management and behaviour management skills, alongside a secure understanding of curriculum planning, assessment for learning, and differentiated teaching. I am experienced in adapting learning to meet the needs of pupils with SEND and English as an Additional Language (EAL). I am also an Aalimah, with experience teaching Islamic studies, which has further strengthened my communication, planning, and classroom leadership skills.

• I have engaged in continuous professional development throughout my teacher training, with a strong focus on safeguarding and child protection, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Prevent Duty training. This has strengthened my understanding of maintaining safe and supportive learning environments.
• I have developed my practice in phonics delivery using the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised scheme and have undertaken ongoing development in behaviour management, adaptive teaching, SEND support, and strategies for supporting pupils with EAL.
• My professional development has also included training in assessment for learning, curriculum planning and sequencing, and the effective use of White Rose Maths to support progression in mathematics. I continue to reflect on and improve my practice through school-based training, mentoring, and feedback from experienced teachers.
