During my time in this role the organisation transitioned through two major restructures. Key responsibilities, in addition to my clinical role, included:

· Professional responsibility for independent contractor groups in Fife (GPs, Dentists and Optometrists) and for medical staff working within my division (circa 200 clinicians).

· eHealth

• Led the development of new clinical IT systems which improve patient safety, enable faster care, and support achievement of national waiting times targets.
• Member of the National eHealth Strategy Board (based in Scottish Government) which oversees the development of clinical and management information systems to support clinical practice in Scotland.
• Member of the National CHI Advisory Group which advises the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland (CMO) and Directors of Public Health on access to CHI (the national unique patient identifier in NHS Scotland) and confidentiality issues.
• Chief Medical Officer (Scotland) advisor for Psychiatry.

· Research and Development

• Developed key performance indicators to monitor strategy implementation, reporting annually to NHS Fife Clinical Governance Committee.
• Collaborated with Universities of Dundee and St Andrews to create four new professorial, one senior lecturer posts and four research nurses over three years to enhance research capabilities.
• Created four new professorial and one senior lecturer positions with Universities of Dundee and St Andrews.
• Appointed four research nurses over three years to enhance research capacity.

· Risk Management

NHS Fife executive lead for Risk Management from 2005 to 2010, integrating risk management into clinical governance framework and establishing it as a key responsibility for clinical managerial staff to implement and monitor with support.

· Regional Mental Health

Established specialist local and regional mental health services for Eating Disorders and Forensic Mental Health Services.

• Spearheaded development and implementation of safe, efficient, patient-centred tele-mental health services across Scotland to aid Health Boards in achieving local objectives and national mental health strategies.
• Delivered telephone-based Guided Self Help and CBT services effectively.
• Facilitated 'Breathing Space', an anonymous listening and sign-posting service for people experiencing psychological distress.
• Provided quality assured health information through NHS Inform online platform.
• Established video conference clinical facilities across diverse settings, including prisons and nursing homes.
• Developed new services, including computerised CBT for broader accessibility as part of a multi-centre European collaboration.
  

• Responsible for the effective performance and strategic development of Mental Health services in Fife (population 350,000)
• Main achievements were in developing sound operational controls, promoting and implementing clear structure for clinical governance/risk management and initiating process of peer review and structured CPD programmes for permanent medical staff.

• This post was split evenly between old age and general psychiatry. Responsibilities included outpatient and inpatient work covering both city and rural catchments.
• Clinical skills deployed as noted above.
• Royal College of Psychiatrists tutor, and examiner.
