Volunteering at the Nottingham Tennis Open
With my college I volunteered as a kids coach at the Nottingham Open Tennis Festival. During this we spent weeks in advanced preparing and learning how to become a kids coach and teaching tennis. I then had 3 groups up to 32 kids everyday for this week and taught them the basics in tennis such as a volley. For this volunteering I had to get a DBS check and Accreditation to continue this. In this I learned valuable skills such as communication, empathy, engagement and leadership skills. As the kids were as young as year 3 therefore, keeping them engaged was the main skill.
NESST (Nottinghamshire Emergency Scout Support Team) Walk for Charity
During the NESST walk you must complete a 10-mile route in Walesby Forest that you must plan out
with your designated group. You must use your teamwork, resilience, endurance, map reading,
navigation and commitment skills to be able to successfully and safely complete this Charity Walk. I
have taken part in this activity for the past 4 years with my scouts' group (1st Wilford Sea Scouts).
Level 5 in Kayaking
During the level 5 course I had to know how to safely check my boat before I get in the water, know how
to do the correct warm ups and warm downs to decrease the chance of injury, know how to executively
paddle at a range of speeds in different conditions, get out of the boat onto a different surface safely,
paddle at least the distance of 2 kilometres, paddle backwards, do specific skills such as the skull and
draw or the hull, capsize the boat and safely identify 2 safety equipment pieces.
Sports Leadership Qualification achieved at the Nottingham Open Tennis Festival.
