Working on a number of different projects my 20 plus years within the industry has given me the skills required to carry out the following types of work: Operating a swing shovel, driving dumpers, foundation works, drainage, concreting works, masonry, carpentry, plastering, rendering, pointing, roof works, plumbing, minor electrical works, wall tiling and decoration.
Originally started with this company (Harrison Developments Ltd) as Assistant Quantity Surveyor, progressing to Head Surveyor and then to the position of Production Manager. I was responsible for all aspects of the construction process, from the Architect designing a building to the home we handed over to the customer, It was my responsibility to oversee and support the Quantity Surveyors, Site Managers, in house Architect, health and safety advisors, site employees, sub-contractors and suppliers. Also working with the Local Authorities regarding Building Control and Highways. Large sub-contract work packages would be managed by myself dealing with the sub-contractors management team and supporting my own Quantity Surveyors.
The quality of the product we produced for me personally was very important.
I started this role as a temporary part time position over the Christmas period whilst doing a full time construction course at Camborne College. This position was due to end in January but was asked to stay on working evenings and weekends on a permanent contract. Whilst working as Assistant Site Manager six days a week I still continued to work for Comet on Sundays. Before starting the role as Assistant Quantity Surveyor there was a period that I worked for Comet full time as Warehouse Manager.
This was a role that was offered to me just as I was finishing my college exams. The company had contacted the college and the course manager recommended me for the role.
The company lost the contract to build the next phase and offered me a position in London thereafter but I didn't want to leave the County.
