Personal Interests

Badminton- member of the University of Surrey Badminton Club, travel, reading education supplements and teaching related news. Activities with my kids.

Accomplishments

  • Gained an Honours Degree in Mathematics from the University of Surrey which included computing modules that covered computer architecture, algorithms, data structures and neural networks. This knowledge reinforced my career development.
  • Whilst completing my PGCE, I have had the opportunity to work at Nescot as a Mathematics Teacher and be able to challenge learners with mathematics. Also, I have worked at Glyn school, Thomas Knyvett College as a Mathematics Teacher. My experience as a teacher has provided me with the opportunity to work in two contrasting areas, which has further fired my enthusiasm for teaching.
  • I currently have experience of teaching GCSE Maths and A-Level Maths, where I work with learners who require challenging lessons to stretch their understanding. I also teach Functional skills numeracy, where there are a large percentage of EAL and SEN learners who require extra support within the classroom, particularly entry level classes. I have risen to the challenges that both of these teaching areas have presented. This has given me the opportunity to teach a range of learners who need extra support, which has given me a good understanding of the National Curriculum and how to teach it effectively. It was a very valuable experience towards my understanding of equality, diversity and cultural awareness.
  • I have gained different experiences working as a supply teacher in primary schools as well as secondary schools. These experiences have given me confidence in adapting to new situations by being able to think on my feet, being flexible and interpreting others’ instructions. Additionally, my experiences in different settings have offered an opportunity to communicate with a range of professionals which has increased my interpersonal skills and collaborative working skills.
