Experienced in Retail and studying in Journalism. Prepared to learn and support team.
In the summer of 2021 I set out to find myself a more regular job which would provide me a good income and also keep me busy. I found this job advertised and I was unsure whether it would be suitable for me however I decided to apply for the job and see what would come from it. I was given an interview where the employer was said to be impressed and I was given the Job. My role at the park was to ensure that surfaces were kept clean such as the bar, arcade and play parks. As COVID-19 was very common during this time my job was vital to ensure that staff and residents of the park did not contract the virus, and as a result ensuring that the business was able to run successfully. I completed the ‘peak' season at the park and was not able to return due to my educational commitments.
As a Sports Journalist for Y Clwb Pel Droed, a dedicated Welsh football news website, I have produced match reports and analytical articles covering domestic fixtures, including regular reporting on Barry Town and Cardiff Met. My responsibilities include attending matches, taking live notes, and writing engaging, accurate content requiring minimal editorial changes. I also created in-depth “Three Talking Points” pieces, which involved researching player contracts, team form, and league structure to offer insightful post-match analysis. This role has helped me rebuild my confidence in journalism after time away and allowed me to develop resilience, time management, and adaptability. I received direct positive feedback from the editor and maintained strong professional relationships, all while consistently delivering well-researched content tailored to a niche audience passionate about Welsh football.
As a Sports Writer for Connect Pembrokeshire, I contribute local sports coverage with a focus on football fixtures in the West Wales region. My role involved researching and previewing matches, such as the West Wales Cup Semi Final between Tenby and Monkton Swifts, where I analysed team form, historical matchups, and key player statistics using tools like the Cymru Football app. I also attend and reported on live matches, writing detailed reports that captured the flow and nuance of closely contested games. This experience taught me the importance of adapting my writing style to suit different editorial expectations, as I adjusted to a more detailed format preferred by the editor. Writing for a publication with a local readership also helped me grow in confidence, especially as I received positive public and editorial feedback. Overall, this role has enhanced my research skills, adaptability, and ability to engage audiences through clear and informative sports journalism.
