I am a Methodical Police Sergeant with 30 years of experience in UK policing covering a range of roles within UK policies, procedures and regulations.
I have significant investigative strengths with excellent problem-solving capabilities.
I have worked at a tactical and strategic Multi Agency level with a specialism in Child Protection and trauma informed practices and proven track record of exemplary leadership.
Knowledgeable about conflict resolution, teamwork, and community engagement. Ready to use and develop communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
The raft of skills and qualifications held are transferable and are evidence of a compassionate, consistent, detailed and people centred approach.
Transferred to Devon and Cornwall Police in 2002 and have worked multiple roles over my 23 years with this organisation.
My initial role and training as response constable allowed me to immediately join response team in Torbay and then North Devon. I dealt with infinitely diverse reports via 999 system. Dynamic decision making, conflict management, risk assessment and management skills remained key to my long and successful fulfilment of this vital frontline role.
In North Devon I then worked as licensing constable within two local authority areas. I engaged with local licensed premises community and was key decision maker and case presenter to local court licensing bench. This role that requires specialist knowledge of law around sale and supply of intoxicating liquor and other regulated substances and items. I did this during time of transition to new licensing provisions in 2003 and in doing so further demonstrated my flexibility and perspicacity.
As neighbourhood beat manager constable in 2008 I was recognised as best and highest performing community beat manager for Devon County. My outstanding work in reducing crime and ASB saw 57% drop in my beat area. I managed my own team and oversaw successful implementation of community support officers to this force area.
That same year I was qualified to rank of sergeant, having passed national Police promotion exam parts one and two.
In 2010 I was selected to work as Police representative within Devon Youth Justice Service. I was sole point of contact between Police and wider partnerships for 13 years, and unprecedented length of service in role
In 2023 I was made manager of North and West Devon Child Centred Policing Team.
I supervised, at retirement, 10 constables, and that includes those who are child centred policing specialists within Devon Basic Command Unit, covering all of New Devon.
Alongside this I manage local Community Safety Partnership Forth North Devon and Torridge.
I am conscientious, effective, hard working, flexible and resourceful.
I am cognisant of and fully respect rules and processes.
I am resilient and quick to learn, and have demonstrated this throughout my working life, with my 'can do' work ethic
I maintain my positive attitude in face of frequent and varied adversity.
Joined Metropolitan Police Service in January 1996 as one of 186 recruits.
Completed 18-week Police training foundation model at Hendon Police College.
I gained public order training and was a frontline resource at major sporting, cultural and state events
Furthermore I have played a tactical frontline role in incidents of civil disorder (May Day riots 2000, Reclaim The Streets) and dynamically arising events.
In doing so I demonstrated my ability to remain professional and calm, maintaining decision making in line with pubic interest and statute and common law in a range of contexts, critical to public and community confidence.
I have worked as part of a specialist business crime team attached to the Brent Cross Shopping Centre whilst as a constable in London. This team managed a large amount of investigations that were progressed through the Crown Prosecution Service, which relied on my ability to mange volume and complexity in terms of investigation and resultant case files.
