Work History

Police Constable

West Midlands Police
04.2021 - Current

I have had a varied policing career. Between 2009 – 2014 I worked at Warwickshire Police headquarters in the control room as a call handler and a police dispatcher. I am confident in reading maps and radio etiquette. Between 2010-2014 I was a Special Constable for the force. Between 2014-2017 I was a response Police Constable.

I left Warwickshire Police in 2017 to provide end of life care to a family member and support my partner. Between 2017-2021 I was employed by Coventry City Council, initially working in Primary Education before transitioning to work at a secondary school. The role was tailored to my skills and experience; I provided education to young people who were in internal exclusion or who were unable to access mainstream lessons. The mentor role developed and I was asked to cover as a year head temporarily, liaising with the senior leadership team, conducting safeguarding meetings to support staff, parents and pupils. During the pandemic, I was asked to help run the key-worker school and also to supervise the lateral flow testing programme. This was a complex and dynamic role, adapting to changes in process, policy, legislation, training and managing a team, considering health and safety and logistics. The police ran a recruitment drive for officers to return due to the lengthy recruitment and training process. I started working for West Midlands Police in April 2021. I have worked across CID, Complex Investigations (rape, domestic attempt murders, honour based violence), neighbourhood crime team (high value vehicle thefts, high value courier fraud and thefts) and most notably, I have worked on CIRV – the Community Initiative to Reduce Violence. CIRV is a home office funded programme to target and tackle knife crime, county lines and exploitation. I have an array of transferable skills and life experience from Policing and Education.

The below is a snapshot of what I have previously dealt with:

  • Delivered emergency first aid in a variety of scenarios (motorway car accidents, CPR, drug overdoses, catastrophic bleeds, suicide attempts, industrial accidents, seizures, diabetic comas), saving and preserving life on numerous occasions.
  • Directed traffic during following road traffic collisions/ road closures and for Queen Elizabeth's visit to Stratford (I was responsible for the logistics of all of the Special Constables) and enforced road closures, maintaining a safe environment for the public, colleagues and myself.
  • Collaborated with partner agencies such as the council, housing departments, family support workers, mental health staff, fire and ambulance services, CPS, youth support workers, education settings, ROCU, immigration, Home Office
  • Preserved scenes and evidence, liaised with SOCO.
  • Executed warrants and used powers of search and seizure.
  • The apprehension and detention of offenders using the nation decision model and dynamic risk assessments.
  • Responded to emergency calls; dealt with hostile environments and vulnerable victims, maintaining fairness and impartiality.
  • Achieved resolution of disputes through effective communication, negotiation and mediation techniques.
  • Diffused volatile, heated situations by employing proven de-escalation and conflict management techniques, using proportionate force and when necessary.
  • Upheld law and order through proactive policing strategies and preventative measures.
  • Educated members of the community about personal safety measures – reducing instances of petty crimes.
  • Carried out thorough investigations, gathered evidence and conducted victim and suspect interviews at a high level. Case files completed and submitted, court dates secured or out of court disposals arranged.
  • Fostered public trust by maintaining high ethical standards and transparency.
  • Led investigations through the criminal justice process, contributing to successful prosecutions.
  • Handled sensitive information confidentially, adhering to Computer Misuse and DPA.
  • Made logical decisions in a timely manner during high-stress situations, minimising danger to the public and fellow officers.
  • Enhanced community safety and reassurance by conducting regular patrols.
  • Performed stop-and-search procedures within legal parameters, protecting citizen rights whilst promoting safety.
  • Protected life and property by enforcing UK laws and regulations.
  • Maintained strict confidentiality through careful and correct storage of case documents, in line with internal policies.
  • Supported rescue efforts in emergency situations by directing traffic, administering emergency medical aid and removing people from dangerous areas.
  • Supported large public gatherings by stewarding and patrolling public areas, including Coventry City of Culture and the Olympics.
  • Conducted traffic stops and taken discretionary, proportionate steps
  • Issued parking fines, logging required information accurately and swiftly.
  • Referred and signposted victims of crime to relevant charities and support, such as CRASAC (rape support), DV charities, victim support and victim compensation scheme.
  • Kept the peace during protests and taken positive action when necessary.
  • Offered compassionate victim support for minimised distress and upset.
