• Anesthesia: Preoperative Anaesthetic assessment activities. This involves reviewing notes, holding a pre-assessment clinic seeing patients face-to-face, collaborating with the pre-assessment nurses and consultants/ doctors from other specialities, liaising with GPs when patients require further pre-operative treatment, and follow-up investigations that were ordered.
• Provision of anaesthesia for daytime elective theatre lists for various specialities.
• ICU: Hold Bleep, review patients in ED/Ward, take decisions and discuss with the consultant for admission to CrCU.
• Attend to NEWS calls in different wards of the hospital (Medical, Surgical, Geriatric, Respiratory) and decide appropriate management locally and take decisions regarding admitting to ICU for escalation of the level of care.
• Providing Critical care in a 15 bedded Bedded ICU- Airway Management, Ventilator settings, Invasive procedures (Lumbar puncture, USG-guided Internal Jugular Venous Catheterization, USG-guided IABP monitoring devices) and taking decisions related to weaning, extubating & stepping down the level of care from ICU to Ward after consulting Senior Consultant.
• Involve family in decision-making and update them regularly.
• Taking decisions related to the End of Life Care, discussing with the consultant and updating the patient/NoK.
• Teaching and supervising medical students, trainees.
• Participate in the trainee critical care rota on both hospital sites with additional cover during colleagues' absence.
• Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
• Teaching: Teaching airway skills, and ventilatory settings to FY2, Core trainees in Anesthesia, A&E. Introductory bedside teaching for medical students from Barts deanery. Bedside teaching on USG-guided IV cannulation with hands-on experience to core trainees.
