  • I started here almost from scratch, the business had been limping for a couple of years so I was brought in to make a change. We manufactured upholstered bed frames and mattresses. I built the business up from working on small amounts of production to treble in a space of around 3 months. Unfortunately it had a knock on effect and the business subsequently had not got the money to continue, therefore the owner decided to close it.

My role was varied, but to be right in the hub of it made my day. At that time, the Retail Bed division was running on approx. £17 million turnover

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

  • I have worked within the British manufacturing industry for over 30 years, within the print and fabric industries supplying manufacturers and retailers, commodity supplies and testing which has in fact given me experience in all areas. I have very good knowledge of manufacturing and sales. From leaving school up to the present day I have excelled myself in every role I have undertaken.
  • I work very well supervised and unsupervised, I like to be proactive so tend to get on with the job and not wait for my superiors to tell me what I need to do. I thrive on hard work and push hard to obtain results. I have an excellent business network and I am well known within the furnishings industry. I like to go that extra mile to help where I can.
  • I was formerly Vice Chair of the Marketing Committee at the National Bed Federation as well as having a close working relationship with British Standards, FIRA and West Yorkshire Trading Standards.
  • I am currently active in the Women In Furniture Network.
  • As well as working and socialising I am also Chairman of Ilkeston Theatre Company in which I am involved in productions and acting. I enjoy being on stage and get involved in local events in and around my area.
