Jim Garvey

This involves serving customers; it is my job to take their order, package their bread or baked goods, and take payment. I have got to know many of the regular customers personally through my friendly service.

Having gained experience as an assistant coach, I became the lead coach on a weekly family tennis session in Maple Cross. I lead games and exercises for children and families. My responsibilities include opening up and locking the clubhouse as well as being trained in basic first aid in case of accidents.

I coached here until it unfortunately closed in August 2025. As an assistant coach, I worked with other coaches leading fun drills and games for kids from 5 to 14. I did both individual sessions as well as summer camps, lasting all day.

My work at the Boot mainly involved running food to tables, taking orders, occasionally preparing drinks, and all round jobs in the running of a pub, such as doing laundry or even helping out the back of house.

Here I worked serving customers, stocking shelves and even occasionally filled in doing the paper round.
