I worked in a care home in North Edinburgh as a Team leader. Daily tasks are administering medication, monitoring residents health and liaise with nurse in charge or manager, update care plans and keep in contact with other professionals and family members. I was also responsible for the team I lead on the day, any accidents and incidents, making sure tasks was getting carried out as well as delegating appropriate assignments to the care staff. The environment encouraged me to give feedback directly and be available to my team would they need any support. I was also responsible for making sure that our residents got the best possible care that day.
I was employed by Link Living as a housing support worker between April 2018 and August 2021. This job taught me a lot and I developed new skills within many different areas. I managed to sustain a complicated and challenging case load, supporting young people with housing as well as issues that can come alongside with homelessness. I have worked with a trauma informed approach to my clients and in a person centered way when delivering the service. I became more comfortable when dealing with challenging behaviors as well as issues with drug and alcohol misuse, mental health and domestic abuse. I also developed better communication skills and widened my knowledge when it came to the benefits system in the UK. I gained experience in writing support plans, outcomes and risk assessments.
