I am the creator and admin of a local online peer support group for people living with Type 1 Diabetes, like myself.
We have social meet-ups as well as educational sessions facilitated by local hospitals to help support one another through lifelong illness.
This group also assisted The Royal Liverpool Hospital Diabetes team in altering how they deliver care to their young people and emerging adults clinic. This led to them being the 2017 QIC winner for "Diabetes Team Initiative of the Year- Children, Young people and Emerging Adults. Engaging to improve: Outcomes of the Young Adult Clinic Restructure".
I believe this group has created positive, lifelong connections for people who felt alone in their diagnosis, as well as offering advice and support to parents of young children living with the condition and providing reassurances in the face of the unknown.
