- Good customer service and communication skills. In my role I interacted with customers every day, either on the tills or the shop floor. I learned how to communicate with customers in a friendly and professional manner, and how to deal with challenging customers.
- Money handling and numeracy. For example, when giving customers the correct change, and assessing how much stock can be put on the shelves.
- Working effectively under pressure. As a customer assistant, I was often required to juggle multiple tasks and work under pressure. For example, balancing working on the tills and stacking shelves when the supermarket was extremely busy.
- Excellent time management. I was trained to do the in-store baking, which involved getting goods baked and displayed before the store opened in the morning. There was therefore a lot of pressure to finish the task on time. I was always very punctual, worked quickly, and completed the baking on time.
- Working in a team. At Lidl, the store team was usually very small at any one time. I communicated with the team effectively and completed my personal and group tasks to a good standard.
