Audit/Quality Improvement

I have had meaningful involvement in a number of projects during my training so far:

2021-23 - Serratus Anterior regional plane block for chest wall trauma. I implemented an ED-delivered regional nerve block for high-risk patients with chest wall trauma. This involved multi-disciplinary training on the serratus anterior block and authorship of a departmental guideline and procedural checklist. This was presented as a poster at Intensive Care Society SOA conference 2023.

2020-21 : Post-operative hypothermia on intensive care. I designed and led this audit, identifying an IT system flaw potentially causing suboptimal patient care. I presented this audit locally and instigated a change in IT system. I then repeated the audit and demonstrated an improvement in care.

2019: Sleep in higher care wards. I assisted with data collection to assess the effectiveness of interventions to improve patient sleep on medical HDU. This was presented as a poster at a regional conference - winning a prize. As a result of the audit we arranged for sleep aid devices to be routinely stocked on medical HDU.

2018: Blood conservation in elective orthopaedics. I worked in a small team and collected data to demonstrate high transfusion rates. I then wrote a clinical guideline to guide management pre-operative iron deficiency with the aim of to reducing the need for blood transfusion.
