Since turning 18 I have been in the healthcare sector and returned when coming back from maternity several years ago, working long and unsociable hours and have gained many life experiences.
Whilst working within the NHS I have become efficient and reliable Certified Nursing Assistant with excellent experience in hospital settings. Skilled in assisting with technical nursing treatments, supporting diagnostic procedures and accurately charting patient records as well as maintaining up to date training CPR and first aid.
To work flexible across site, working across wards such as medical, surgical, elderly, outpatients, renal, cardiology and haematology - cancer unit.
Supporting patients in any given department from observations to full assistance of care needs, washing and dressing, mobilising and assistance with nutrition.
To work alongside RN's, doctors, managers, agency staff, consultants, family members and other professionals. Responsibilities include using the 'Vital Pac' system to electronically document NEWS scores, blood glucose monitoring, undertaking ECG's, bladder scans, daily record sheets (input/output charts, Sskin bundles, stool charts, catheter care, body maps and patient property). Input cannulas and take bloods at the nurses or doctors request.
Supporting relatives and patients with any needs or concerns.
End of life care during final days and basic life support.
Attend training when it is required and maintain in date policies, keep a good attitude, work life balance and professionalism to work alongside different wards, staff, patient needs, knowledge, and terminology for different wards. Being able to manage with changing workloads throughout shift, changing wards, to cope with the demand of the service and remaining professional at all times whilst wearing uniform.
Working across community hospitals on a bank contract, fulfilling duties within rehabilitation wards (patients admitted from acute or home admission) to gain more rehab from surgery or needing more assistance to reach baseline before returning home. Occasionally may have end of life patients from the community to support and their family within the last days.
Daily washing, supporting with mobility, observations - blood pressure, sats, temperature, respiratory rate, alertness. Support with meal times if needed and fluid intake.
Individualised care plans, MUST, catheter care, mouth care, checking previous letters, appointments and any previous/ necessary documentation. Maintaining high quality care alongside communicating with the RN/ in charge sister or doctor and patient of any worries or needs during each shift whilst on duty. maintaining cleaning and health and safety throughout th environment, checking equipment before it is used by checking the date and that it is safe to use, were it may not to report it.
Maintan privacy and dignity whilst keeping as much independence of a patient and allowing them to express capacity at all times when available
