Dylan Baker

Newchurch

Summary

Since I was young I've had an interest in computers. I Completed a GCSE and A level in computer science and have completed coding projects in and out of school for my own personal interest. I started off making games on scratch when I was younger and kept learning basic coding from school and Udemy courses online. I feel at home trying out and learning new software and have experience using the Microsoft and adobe suites as well as trying out programming languages like python. Since leaving 6th form I have been traveling in new Zealand and Australia mostly working farm jobs. I have always been keen to try different things and my experience ranges from dairy, to shearing sheep to working on vegetable farms. I always started with no experience and learned as I worked. In my free time I enjoy exercising, going for walks/exploring and watching films and reading I'm particularly interested in philosophy.

Work history

Kitchen Porter

The Pointers Inn
Newchurch
  • I worked as a kitchen hand on the Island from age 15 to 20 mostly weekend work as a dishwasher but as time went on I was entrusted with more jobs like organizing the stock rooms and fridges and food prep which I would have to manage on top of my cleaning duties.

Data Entry Volunteer

Citizens Advice
  • When I was in 6th form I also did volunteering work for my aunt who is a manager at citizens advice.
  • I was doing data entry and making listings for events on an Isle of Wight community website.
  • I learned how the website worked behind the scenes as well as making a report of the work I had done every day.

Farm Worker

farms
, New Zealand/Australia
  • While traveling I worked a lot of different jobs most of which were new to me I had to learn a new skill set and adapt to a different environment frequently and as well as learning farming and labouring skills and working physically hard long hours I learned how to use and maintain farm machinery like a cow milking plant, vehicles and generators.
  • On these farms I would often start with no skills and be thrown right into a life of getting up at 5 every morning and not coming home until 5 in the evening.
  • Soon I was completing tasks independently like milking a whole herd of cows, setting up fences or doing maintenance on farm equipment
  • I always enjoyed the opportunity to learn something new and improve my skills.
