CEM for Tonbridge Track Renewals
Volker Rail
Tonbridge, Kent
04.2024 - Current
My current role at Volker Rail is working for the Southern Renewal Enterprise covering S&C and Plain Line track Renewals as CEM. Within the role I deal with ensuring that the renewal works and staff based at Tonbridge are compliant to all Network Rail, Volker Rail and Construction and Design Management Standards and Procedures. My responsibilities include reviewing and endorsing Work Package Plans, Task Briefs, Temporary Works, Structural and Public Risk Assessments and Emergency Plans. Health and Safety files submissions also fall within my remit and Any Line Open plans as i am the responsible manager for these. In addition to being an assessor for engineering roles, I complete on-site and desktop senior leadership and engineering verifications of track renewal activities and paperwork. I have also assisted in gathering evidence for incidents and have collated the information to produce level 1 reports and engineering alerts.
CEM and CRE for S&C and Plain Line Renewal
Colas Rail
Tonbridge, Kent
01.2014 - 04.2024
In my previous role as Track CEM I ensured the track renewal team at Tonbridge was compliant to CDM regs, Network Rail and Colas Rail standards since 2021. Prior to this I was a track CRE and Lead Engineer I oversaw the technical engineering team, who assisted in the installation of core works and the technical deliverables associated with these works, including Critical Rail Temperature management, stressing, GEOGIS and items required for the TOC packs.
Principal Technical Officer
Network Rail
Faversham
01.2008 - 01.2014
My last role with Network Rail as Principal Technical Officer covered many duties. As well as advising and giving technical guidance to local RSMs, I aid in training and offer guidance to other technical grades and teams. My primary task is monitoring Track Quality. This requires analysis of data from the TRC and agreeing an action plan with the TME and RSM and then implementing this plan and following through the works until completion. Also duties cover the undertaking of survey work and design, of which I have experience from Balfour Beatty. This has meant me being involved in large works for the track maintenance teams, including advising on the S&C renewal at Hastings, the 1m 50ch Plain Line renewal on the ATH at Ashford and being the lead technical person on the Rochester Bridge Wheeltimber Renewal. This was a huge undertaking to change 52 8m long timbers in under 52hrs over the river Medway. As well as this I also have to ensure all technical cover issues are met by assigning staff to shifts depending on their abilities and monitor that they are meeting and completing agreed shifts. My team also covers and maintains safety critical records for stressing, sidewear, structural gauging and hot weather reporting for works in summer months. We cover calibration and wheeltimber bridge records and ordering of S&C replacements. I have an understanding of all these areas and the programs and systems relevant to them. I also monitor technical compliance and performance. I have also covered the role of Assistant Technical Maintenance Engineer for a period of 6 months due to sick leave.
My role in BBRIS was to survey, design and follow through to completion the core works. This involved office duties and site based work which I am happy to be hands on with. As Technical Support Engineer I have been responsible for the monitoring and recording of skills and experience of the technical staff, thus enabling me to ascertain the correct development and training that they required to fulfil their roles and responsibilities and cascading safety and technical briefs. While seconded into the RT16 completion of works team I assisted in the assessing and planning of works required to complete the Health and Safety files in order to close-out renewal works.
