  • The main aspect of the process was to obtain authorization from the insurance company for the products we supply to the patient
  • Healthcare is divided into 2 plans as of the federal state policy and this is applicable for the patients who are above the age of 65+ ans for the members who are under below poverty line
  • There are mainly known as medicare and Medicaid plans and all the charges will be taken care by the US health care
  • People above poverty line tend to buy insurance policy from the insurance company and they had to pay premium every month and on the other hand they get contractual allowance from the payor or the insurance
  • So we in authorizations department play a major role in generating the revenue for the company
  • Resolving the issues with the patient while talking to them and taking an initiative to talk to the insurance company on behalf of them and getting paid for the services rendered
  • Request of authorizations only comes in to picture only when we have all the things in place as we need documents from physicians stating that the patient is suffering from the disease and will need the equipment
  • The length of need the validity of the documents all depends on the payor or the insurance guide lines and it would be listed in a tool named as PPI(Payor Provider Information)
  • So for each and every claim we do refer tool and requirements and request the authorizations depending up on the core products we supply
  • So we do have portal payors, Faxable payors and callable payor and the span to request the authorization acc to each payor
  • If the authorization is approved then we do receive a payment for the equipment we supplied, but if did not receive it then again billing the patient or adjusting the revenue of depends up on the patient’s plan
  • If the patient belongs to the federal plan we adjust the debts off as we cannot bill the patients below poverty line, but if the patient belongs commercial plan we will bill the patient for the services rendered
  • We also have hospitals that provide authorizations, and I am a part of 2 special projects Mercy medical group and Denver Health care apart from the normal authorizations process.
