Effect of Magtrace Injection Duration on Sentinel Lymph Node Yield in Breast Surgery 2026
Milton Keynes University Hospital | Led independently under consultant supervision
Conducted a retrospective audit to check whether longer injection-to-surgery intervals are associated with increased lymph node removal and, whether extra nodes taken were diagnostically necessary.
Key finding: longer intervals significantly increased node removal (Kruskal-Wallis p=0.019; 0–1 vs ≥7 days p=0.007) without improving diagnostic yield — the ≥7-day group had the highest node removal but the lowest positive node ratio. Recommended an optimal injection-to-surgery window of 0–5 days to minimise unnecessary node removal and patient morbidity
