Before I started working for Marks and Spencer, I used to work at the Wylam Brewery in Exhibition Park in Newcastle as a kitchen porter. This is where my team building skills first took place, as naturally a kitchen can be a stressful and fast paced environment to work in. I worked there for about 1 year and a half, before I applied for Marks and Spencer.
In recent years, I have built skills and experience being a customer assistant at Marks and Spencer. These attributes could without a doubt be transferred to somewhere like the railway. The services you provide and assistance that is carried out remains the same whether in a shop or on a station (outstanding). I aspire to do well in becoming a Station Support Assistant. Before working for Marks and Spencer, I was already great at the ability to get along well with people, and by people, I mean anyone, but now I have gained some professional experience, and now that experience should be used in a different environment where things could be more challenging, and that is what I seek. Being a customer assistant has not also helped me get along with anyone, and know how to be the perfect person to put them in the right direction, but knowing how to work well alongside my colleagues, which is just as important. This I believe is also a vital skill to have when hoping to be a part of the LNER team, which is another reason why I think that I would be better at this role than the other people I will be in competition with.
As I have mentioned previously, I think I have some skills that I could bring to be a Station Support Assistant As well as my ability to provide good customer service and get along with anyone I talk to, I am a quick learner, so if I get shown how to do something, I will pick it up quicker than most, this is why I can become flexible with the jobs I do in Marks and Spencer, as I can be counted on to do it without a problem, that is something I think I could bring to LNER
