Manager
Achieve Together
01.2017 - 12.2023
Supporting young adults with a range of special and complex needs including ASD, Learning disabilities and trauma backgrounds, or people with challenging behaviors.
My role was to support the residents' wellbeing and having an unconditional positive regard to behaviors that may challenge themselves, staff and their environment.
I started out as a support worker caring for five residents with differing mental health needs.
I worked closely with them and built-up excellent person-centered support, learning their likes and dislikes as well as their triggers.
I ensured they had a fulfilled life enjoying activities they love and supporting them with family contact and appointments.
Working in mental health has given me core skills and insight into emotional wellbeing, therapeutic approaches and staying calm in challenging situations.
Vast knowledge of dealing with staffing issues and providing support to staff.
This included grievance and disciplinary matters, conflict management, leading mediation meetings, monitoring staff absence and sickness, and fully supporting them through work or home related situations and reducing the strain on their work performance as their well-being in work is detrimental to their ability to perform high standards of care.
Building strong relationships and being the first point of contact.
Managing and maintaining all relevant policies and procedures and updating when required, ensuring all staff were kept current and competent with legislation.
Designed bespoke care plans, risk assessments and DoLS applications that were written in the residents best interest and conditions and restrictions were agreed with family members, local authority and other external input, also residents input when deemed to have capacity to do so guaranteeing highly person centred care and best interests are first and foremost.
Carried out regular monthly audits, medication, health and safety, care planning, risk assessing and so forth ensuring all aligned with care plans.
Led CQC preparation, and achieved and maintained a 'Good' rating.
Delivered medication and clinical care with explanation and reassurance.
Kept detailed notes so that changes in mood, health or preference were spotted early and acted upon.
Liaising with external agencies as required and attending review meetings as appropriate.
Ensuring compliance with the CQC management policies and procedures and making sure that all staff within their controls are fully briefed and can implement them.
I had to effectively manage the team performance, delivering regular supervisions and feedback or discipline where necessary.
I prided myself with having an open door policy with staff, being approachable and ensuring their needs were met.
Alongside my manager I was the first point of contact for all end-end recruitment, from the interview stage to offer of employment, making sure they felt fully supported welcoming into the team during their induction process and all mandatory training was completed and shadow shifts were carried out so they were comfortable and confident before starting their new role.
