I am Alfie Shaw, an 18 year old student at Derby College where I'm learning about digital media and film making.

I have a huge passion for Science Fiction and both video and board gaming and have previous experience of working in the gaming retail industry.

I am a huge fan of Forbidden Planet, visiting the Derby store around once a week. Whilst I'm currently seeking part time employment to help support my studies I am also seeking my first footsteps into an industry I am keen to become involve din as a full time career.

Customer service, providing customers with information and advice to assist them in making informed purchases.

  • Managed and coordinated board game sessions, enhancing customer engagement and community participation.
  • Stock control, ensuring shelves were fully stocked with merchandise.

  • During the summer of 2026 I undertook work experience at Distinct Gaming, Belper. This was a small business specialising in card games, board games, roleplaying games and miniature based wargames.

  • Huge passion for Science fiction & gaming My hobbies include Dungeons and Dragons & Japanese monster horror / kaiju but I do have a wider knowledge around mainstream science fiction franchises such as Star Wars, Marvel, DC comics and Pokémon
  • Till operation - Whilst at Distinct gaming I would serve customers, using the till and both cash and contactless payments
  • Product Display - I would ensure that the shop displays are well ordered, presentable and have sufficient stock on display for customers to purchase
  • Cleaning - I would ensure that the shop would be clean a hygienic throughout the day
  • Communication skills - Whilst working at Distinct Gaming I would assist with group gaming sessions, ensuring games ran smoothly and assisting with people's understanding
  • Team working- Currently at College much of my studies involve working as a team, with a large part of my course revolving around film production we work in small groups to jointly produce footage and material
  • Reliability - I am punctual and reliable During my L2 Digital media studies I was the only student within the Media department that achieved 100% attendance, nor have I missed any lectures or college activities in this academic year
