Quality Improvement

VTE Risk Assessment and Prescribing

  • I completed a two cycle quality improvement project on VTE risk assessments being carried out and prescribing on the acute medical unit in University College hospital. I was able to analyse the current healthcare system and identify weaker areas requiring improvement. I gained experience in collecting data accurately and interpreting whether change is real or random, strengthening my ability to make evidence-based decisions. I learnt project management skills such as planning and running a PDSA cycle and coordinating with different members of a healthcare team. The QIP highlighted that sustainable change requires consistent engagement and small incremental improvements.
