From a very young age, I have always been fascinated by facts, science and the mechanics behind how everyday objects function. This naturally led me to become an independent learner who thrives in hands-on environments which provide a challenge and room for deeper thinking. As I've grown older, those interests have remained with me, along with a growing awareness of the importance behind sustainability, ethics and the environmental impact of our work. These interests have shaped the way I live and have ultimately influenced my passion in building a career within the construction, engineering and electrical based fields.
I used to captain Derby futsal U18s which provided me with valuable experience at working with a variety of diverse people, understanding their needs and learning how to communicate effectively within a team to achieve common goals. Through this role, I honed my leadership, teamwork, communication, adaptability and empathy skills.
I also have considerable experience working in fast-paced work environments. My first job at Nando's, Fosse Park, was particularly challenging as I instantly got thrown into the deep end with minimal training. This experience required me to adapt quickly and enhance my organisational and time management skills. At my current job where I work in a busy kitchen, my workplace skills have progressed significantly as I learn to contribute towards a positive team culture, where I also play an important role in passing on my knowledge to others with less experience.
For the future, I aim to continuously improve my skills within a workplace where I can learn from others and also share my own insights and ideas. I wish to pursue a career within the construction/electrical fields as I am eager to apply my critical thinking abilities and practical skills with the addition of my enthusiasm to try to make the world, local community and environment a better place for all.
At The Lime Tree, my responsibilities include washing pots, organisation and cleaning. Here, the environment is very friendly so this job has developed my confidence and the ability to contribute towards a positive workplace culture.
Working at Nando's was my first job and also my hardest. Situated at Fosse Park, peak times could get extremely busy so I had to learn and adapt quickly. This job developed my team-working skills, communication, time management, organisation and also built my experience with working under pressure.
