Enthusiastic, and mechanically minded with Hands-On Experience and a Passion for Renewable Energy.
I am a physically fit and dedicated individual with a strong foundation in mechanical work. I currently work as a Trainee field technician for Calibrate Energy. At Calibrate, we install and maintain ground-source and air-source heat pumps, as well as CHP units. My role here as a field engineer has entailed carrying out servicing and repair work, where I’m involved in jobs such as replacing pump bearings, servicing CHP engines, replacing faulty sensors, wiring in control and power cables, fault finding, and mechanical services on Heat pump units. I have been involved in many exciting projects during my time here, for example, we have recently relocated and reinstalled a 10.7 megawatt system up in Aberdeen which I was heavily involved in, particularly the dismantling and reassembling side of this project.
During my time here, I have learnt an array of new skills, and I have gained invaluable experience working in the renewables sector.
While my background hasn’t always been in renewables, I have always had a strong interest in mechanics. Having raced motocross and enduro across the UK as well as competing internationally in NewZealand and at a red bull snow event in Austria, I have developed a deep technical knowledge and a disciplined approach to maintaining and repairing complex machinery. Whether it's a straightforward task like cleaning an air filter or a more advanced project like engine rebuilding, I take pride in my ability to get the job done efficiently and effectively.
From the age of 15, I gained valuable experience working in a local garage, where I expanded my understanding of mechanics. I then spent 18 months in New Zealand with Finch Contracting, primarily handling agricultural duties. During the off-season, I worked alongside their engineer, gaining skills in MIG, stick, and TIG welding. Projects included fabricating door hinges, constructing trailer doors, repairing drawbars, and assisting in welding and sheeting a new maize bin for one of their trucks. Additionally, I regularly serviced tractors and various implements, making repairs as needed to keep operations running smoothly.
After finding my passion for renewables, I am now focused on advancing my technical skills with formal qualifications and exploring the renewable energy sector, an area I believe is essential for future generations.
