Tom Hepworth

I am a long standing experienced presenter on South Today on all output including sport. I like to get involved in shaping the programme and also write engaging links, script and cut headlines and come up with ideas for stories I can be involved in as a presenter. I have a warm and relaxed style on air but having covered major stories over the last twenty years also have gravitas and good news judgement. That experience as a reporter and producer has given me a deep understanding and love of the area and the stories that matter to our viewers, but also a profound appreciation of how the whole team works, the dynamic not just in the studio but the gallery and newsroom are as important - it is a team effort. I'm not afraid to be my authentic self on air, viewers like a bit of personality and humour, and it helps to make the BBC distinctive, but I'm experienced enough to know when to use it. I also embrace new technology and understand it's importance in bringing new audiences to the BBC, I've made bespoke content for the BBC News website and social media on a range of subjects from boxing to practical guides to Brexit. I've also won an RTS award and have also reported live on BBC Breakfast, BBC World and the News Channel as well as various radio outlets.

I filmed and edited stories on a daily basis usually for tx the same day. I also worked on off diary stories in harder to reach and diverse communities as part of the BBC iCan project. In 2005 I produced the political content in the run up to the general election using creative and unusual treatments to try to engage younger audiences
