I have many years' experience in this role of news editing - copy tasting and commissioning stories from writers on the UK news desk.

Breaking news is an integral part of this job and I show focus and calmness in delivering these stories under tight deadlines.

I play an active part at editorial meetings in originating new stories and adding angles to existing ones.

My extensive experience and calm management in handling breaking news means that I am frequently asked to act up in the Assistant Editor's role. I offer consistent and supportive advice to new starters and experienced colleagues.

I started my BBC career by writing UK and international stories for the Ceefax text service.

I quickly progressed to becoming a writer on the UK Online team, delivering stories across a broad range of topics. I also suggested original ideas for our coverage.

I was responsible for the paper's news content - commissioning from regional correspondents and writing stories and features that I originated myself on news, sports and entertainment.

I oversaw page make-up and layout in the newsroom and at the printers.

Represented the paper at a wide range of conferences and public functions.
