  • Making sure the exclusion zone is secured by suitable barriers and signages
  • Giving the start safe briefing and any toolbox talk to the team and making sure the task to be done is understood before allowing them to sign.
  • Liasind with the crane operator about the crane situation concerning servicing and fuelling up with diesel.
  • De-rig the crane when required, tracking the crane to required position when needed.
  • Making sure daily checks are carried out. checking out the chains while putting it on the crane.
  • Constant communication with the ap on any updates and amendments on the lift plans, task briefing and any safety alerts. ordering new accessories or reporting of damaged accessories.
  • Ensuring a very good house keeping within the yard, by ensuring a good segregation of all steels, storing and stacking them in good manner for easy accessibility.
  • Working with the steel fabrication team of various steel fixers. their supervisor liase with me in feeding them with the right required steel either to the bending machine which will be bend into the required shape according to the request order received from the tunnelling team (kilnbridge) or send to the gilletting machine for cutting or by sending them steels on to the table for threading.
  • Making sure tag line are used on all loads and trial lifts is been carried out and taking five steps back before sending the load.
  • Loading and off loading the trailer and steel wagons.
  • Kilnbridge supervisor tell me what steels need to be loaded onto the trailer. i will have to load and stack them on the trailer by evenly distributed to share the weight and keeping an eye on the swl of the trailer.

  • We carried out a lot of digging, sand filling and site maintenance by laying of all drainage pipes and carrying out all the drainage works.
  • Carrying out some temporary works and dismantling them afterward.
  • Building the offices, canteen, changing room and the welfare facilities.
  • Installation of all the electrical lambs and some hoardings.
  • Building and erecting of the main and satellite shafts with two crawler cranes. The 230t mainly for the main shaft and the 150t for the satellite shaft. A 70t crawler crane was also on site for purposely man rider duties.
  • We take turns in banking the cranes. Man rider duties involve carrying out blind lift by banking the crane from either of the viewing platform by lowering down the man rider carrying the miners, electricians or inspectors down into the selected shaft and safely landing the man rider on the landing platform.
  • Sending plants and machinery down the shaft by using the magic carpet, making sure they are strapped down and secured to the platform before sending it down into the shaft.
  • Carrying out shaft maintenance and some light work by the miners or electricians with the help of the working platform by lowering and slowly moving the working platform around the shaft depending where particular they want to work.
  • Using the segment lifter in sending segment down the shaft in the building process.
  • All visual checks are done before and after every lift on all lifting accessories.
  • I carry out the weekly loler mostly every Monday on the tablet, synchronized it before sending it off.
