Nearly 30 years of experience at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, learning, building on my knowledge and experience along the way and am now very proud to be Interim Curator at Dawyck Botanic Garden. I have represented Dawyck and RBGE at local, national, and international levels, worked collaboratively with colleagues, and have a track record of delivering on projects.
I excel at team leadership and helping team members deliver on their contribution to RBGE's strategic plan in an efficient and sustainable way.
As member of the Senior Leadership team and other internal working groups I am very well positioned to take Dawyck forward, not just horticulturally, but also as a visitor destination and world renowned living collection.
Take the lead on overall site operations and act as the immediate point of contact for all teams on site.
Curate the living collection of plants at Dawyck, managing the development and presentation of the garden to the highest horticultural standard.
Lead, manage and motivate the garden's team, working collaboratively across departments to deliver RBGE's strategy goals and a great visitor experience.
Maintain the highest standards of presentation, horticulture, and biosecurity in the gardens.
Work collaboratively with science teams to deliver the ambitions of RBGE science and conservation programmes.
Ensure health and safety compliance for visitors and staff on site.
Work closely and collaboratively with other teams, including estates, commercial, public engagement and science, to ensure that targets for maintenance, income generation and information provision are met.
Represent Dawyck at Senior Leadership level.
Project management of significant garden projects, and/or inputting into larger project management processes.
To provide support for the Curator and deputise for them in theor absence.
To maintain and develop the internationally important living collection in order to maximise its value as a research, education, and heritage resource. A first-class visitor attraction to enable families and individuals to enjoy and be inspired by the living collection and the visitor centre's facilities.
To provide learning and training in horticulture, through interpretation, tours, public outreach, events and workshops.
Deputise for the curator in ther absence and assist the curator with financial and administrative matters.
Ensure the highest levels or horticultural and health safety are met at all times
Proactive member of the arboricultural team.
Line managing and leading a small team to deliver the highest standards in horticulture and arboriculture.
Participate in and lead on foreign consultancy fund raising trips.
Sharing knowledge with students, leading tours of the garden and representing RBGE at wider industry events.
Care and cultivation of the Living Collection as set out in the RBGE Living Collection Policy and relevant management and strategic plans
Developed foundational arboricultural skills through targeted training and experience enhancement.
Gained expertise in tree climbing across four distinct sites.
Acquired extensive proficiency in machinery operation and maintenance.
