I may not have real life experience in engineering however i have developed skills and traits which would help me to be able to do so. I have developed these skills and traits in several different ways such as my time working in hospitality, school and just day to day life. With some of these skills and traits that i have acquired, I would be able to apply to many different aspects of being a renewable engineer.
Whilst working in hospitality I have been able to test myself by either working as a team or individually. Whilst working as part of a team it has meant I have to be punctuate, organised and time efficient so that my colleagues are able to depend on me. It has also meant I've been able to learn how to take my colleagues ideas into account so that I can look at something from a different perspective and work together in order to get a more beneficial outcome with the job at hand. Whilst changing my place of work it has made me be able to test myself to adapt to new environments with new colleagues but also to be able to be a quick learner in order to account for these new environments. Whilst providing service to customers it has also challenged me to have quick problem solving skills in order to correct errors that may have been made.
Whilst being in school I have always enjoyed the stem subjects more than others. I enjoy doing questions which test my ability with problem solving, this allows me to test myself to be flexible with how I work and take on advice when needed. I am always up for a challenge and will put my full effort into whatever I am doing. I have also been able to work as a team in team-based exercises in which I have learned to be able to converse with my peers and be able to take on and give out advice.
During this seasonal, part time job I acquired several skills such as communicating with and helping customers, developing my ability to be able to adapt and improvise, having to be punctual and have good time management and most importantly being able to work within a team.
I have not been working here for very long however in the short time I have been here, I have been able to show my ability to adapt to new environment and I have been able to drive myself into becoming a part of a new team with different personalities.
Whilst being in school i have always found that i like to be able to understand things and not just be given a formula and have to accept it. I always like to expand my knowledge and understand new concepts. I believe that sse would be a good way to test myself to work individually and as part of a team on different projects. i also have a family connection to sse with my father who has been working for sse for almost 20 years. Although he may not be involved in the engineering side of the company i have always been interested in what he had been doing and sometimes he would try to explain some of sse's projects and the different ways electricity is distributed across Scotland. Something that also made sse interesting to me was a school visit with my engineering science class to SSEN Transmission Kinardochy Substation in November 2023. This project was inspiring to me and made me want to be involved in projects that would be similar. I am also interested in sse's ambitions to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. growing up in a fairly rural area it has made me appreciate Scotland's beauty and how it needs to be preserved for the next generations to be able to see the same as i have, this making me want to become a part of sse to provide a healthier future with lower carbon emissions.
