The matrons' fundamental role is to improve the patient experience. The underpinning principle is to have a professional leader who is accountable for co-coordinating safe, high quality care to improve patients' experience.
By delivering on the 10 key roles of the Matron, I provide professional and managerial leadership to the relevant nursing teams, ensuring the provision of high quality and responsive care to patients and their families at all times. I work in partnership with the Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology and the wider Divisional Management Team to ensure effective and efficient management of services to meet agreed standards within the resources available. I am accountable for all clinical aspects of quality within the service. I maintain a visible presence where patients, carers, staff and visitors can turn for assistance and upon whom they can rely to ensure that the fundamental of care are met. I further support Gynaecology by leading and developing nurses, nursing practice and improvements in patient care.
I managed the Day Case and Diagnostic Suites at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. In addition to this role I cross covered on-call for ITU and Recovery.
Sister for Endoscopy at the John Radcliffe site. This followed with a short career break prior to my maternity leave.
I worked in the capacity of Head nurse, Managing Dental, Max-Fax OPD departments along with the Theatre Suite, comprising of 12 theatres covering emergency and elective work for both adults and children.
This was two year contract, but due to ill health I returned to the UK for surgery after 12months.
I set up the two Recovery Units in West Wing Theatres, following the move from the Radcliffe Infirmary. This involved the clinical aspects of establishing a new service as well as recruiting and training a new RN/ODP team. This project was successful following 18 months of investment and was one of my most rewarding roles in my career.
Clinically, I learned a great deal in this role, working closely with the NICU teams. This role is also where I discovered my love of Leadership.
I developed my skills in Recovery nursing, caring for both Adults and Children, working as a D Grade staff Nurse through to a Senior F grade. I also worked part time during this period as the POA Sister
I started my first role as a staff nurse on a 15 bed Gynaecology Ward, following completion of my training.
In my spare time I am a keen runner, completing Marathons and Half Marathons. I am also a keen walker, walking mainly in North Wales as well as the Cevennes and Mont Blanc.
