During my time working in the fracture clinic as an adult nurse, I gained extensive experience in the assessment, management, and ongoing care of patients presenting with musculoskeletal injuries. My role involved conducting initial triage, performing wound care, dressing changes, and assisting in the immobilisation of fractures using casts, splints, and braces. I became proficient in monitoring patients for complications such as infection, delayed healing, or neurovascular compromise, ensuring prompt escalation when necessary.

I developed strong patient education skills, explaining treatment plans, cast care, mobility strategies, and follow-up schedules, helping patients understand the importance of adherence to recovery protocols. My experience required close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, and radiology staff, to coordinate investigations, treatment, and rehabilitation plans effectively.

In addition to clinical skills, I honed my organisational and communication abilities, managing busy clinic schedules, documenting patient records accurately, and providing emotional support to patients who were anxious or experiencing pain. Working in this fast paced and specialised environment strengthened my ability to prioritise care, respond to emergencies, and deliver patient-centred care with attention to both safety and comfort.

As a staff nurse in medical, surgical and rehabilitation wards, I gained comprehensive experience in delivering holistic patient care across diverse clinical settings. Working on a cardiology ward, I gained extensive experience managing patients with a wide range of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions, including myocardial infarctions, heart failure, arrhythmias, and post operative care following cardiac procedures. My role involved patient assessment and monitoring, medication management, Acute care and interventions, Patient education and support, Multidisciplinary collaboration, Documentation and clinical governance.

Throughout my time on the ward, I developed strong skills in critical thinking, rapid decision making, and compassionate patient centred care. I also learned to work effectively under pressure in a high acuity environment while maintaining empathy and professionalism.

As a nurse working on a cardiology day case, I was responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing elective cardiac procedures, ensuring their safety, comfort, and preparedness prior to surgery. My role involved preassessment, patient education, and close monitoring, combining both clinical expertise and compassionate care.

I conducted thorough pre operative assessments, including reviewing medical histories, medications, allergies, and previous interventions, while performing baseline observations such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and ECGs. I ensured that all necessary pre procedure investigations were completed and results accurately documented, identifying any potential risk factors that could impact the procedure.

My experience also involved post procedure monitoring and discharge planning for day case patients, ensuring they met criteria for safe discharge and providing advice on post operative care, medication, and follow up appointments. Through this role, I developed strong skills in clinical assessment, patient centred communication, teamwork, and time management, while gaining a deeper understanding of cardiac conditions, interventions, and the perioperative care pathway.
