I am a registered nurse who acquired BSc Hons Second Class Degree(Upper Division) in Nursing from University of Brighton, UK in 2021. I have been working in Acute medical elderly care ward in Royal Sussex County Hospital ,Brighton in UK soon after I qualified. I got registration from Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in October 2023. I did basic life support training in UK. Currently I am in UK but I will be in Illinois, Naperville around second half of November 2023.
As a registered nurse, I am working with patients, perform administrative tasks and assist other medical professionals, like doctors and consultants. The duty in the day include: The assessment and monitoring of patient conditions, checking symptoms, vital signs and arranging diagnostic tests, developing on-going care plans, administering intravenous drips or different types of medication, Checking and using
specialized equipment such as monitors and ventilators.
As an acute care nurse working in hospital ward, not the consecutive days will be the same - and always expect surprises. Acute nurses may be first on the scene when a patient's condition changes - for better or worse - and should be prepared to administer emergency first aid. Conversely, acute nurses deal frequently with patients whose conditions are improving - which could mean contacting family members and support services or arranging transfer to different facilities. In this situation Effective communication between different health care professionals allow us to stay focused and carry out tasks to the highest standard.
In my ward, I am dealing with number of patients presenting with a wide range of conditions so an ability to be caring, compassionate and patience is crucial. For example, when looking after dementia patient all these skills are essential. Looking after elderly person requires caring nature. Compassion and care make elderly care person more secure and settled. Patience is an important work place skill which help us to reduce our stress and support others in work place, leads better work place performance and healthy work environment.
I am continually learning to develop my knowledge through training which strengthen my problem solving skills and critical thinking skills.
As a registered nurse . I believe in being responsible, committed and highly motivated to develop my nursing career. Since I started to work as a registered nurse, I always tried to uphold the organizational values through communicating between multidisciplinary team members to improve patient lives.
