I am currently hired as a chip shop assistant in a chip shop and I am in a work placement in Orchardville, Lisburn. I have gained a variety of skills from each. In the chip shop I am able to work as a team in a busy environment. I also ensure the safety of food preparation and have housekeeping skills. In my work placement I understand and maintain different health and safety legislations, such as; safeguarding and reporting of concerns or incidents. I can effectively communicate with the service users and I have built strong, reliable relationships with them, as well as the other staff. I help the staff plan monthly timetables of activities that include; intellectual development, physical fitness and life skills. I am working towards my grade 5 in piano and I have a grade 3 in flute. I can also use my musical talent to provide entertainment. I strongly believe each of these skills would benefit me in a role as a care assistant. I have experience in a health and social care setting and I understand the policies and procedures that need to be followed, as I also study these in college. I can work as team in a busy environment with excellent communication skills.
Part of the health and social care course I am currently studying is completing 100 hours of placement in a selected health or social care setting. The setting I chose was a day centre named Orchardville, situated in Lisburn. I have really enjoyed the experience of being in a health and social care setting. I have learnt so much and have been given amazing opportunities. I now have the ability to support adults with disabilities and learning problems, and I'm able to communicate effectively with them. I have built strong, reliable relationships with both the staff and the service users.
