Summary

I am a dedicated STEM Ambassador with a strong foundation in mathematics and physics, demonstrating exceptional problem-solving and risk assessment skills. I have attained leadership and team-building abilities through leading a band for the Methodist Church in Ireland, while also having a successful completion of the Duke of Edinburgh awards. I have become passionate about engineering, with a focus on designing safe and sustainable structures, aiming to contribute positively to global sustainability efforts.

Architecture Work Experience

HPA Architecture
Portadown, Armagh
2025.06 - 2025.06

At HPA I was introduced to CAD and Revit which I was able to pick up quickly. While I got to produce plans for a community centre that met the requirements for a mock client, I was more interested in the structure and material aspects. It also gave me an insight what the design aspect can look like for engineering, which I much preferred as there seemed to be more maths involved. This work experienced allowed me to be firm in my decision in exploring civil/structural engineering as it still has part of the design aspect but with a lot more maths and physics involved which I appreciate more.

Skills

  • Mathematical skills; My GCSE Maths and Further Maths, and now A level Maths have helped me develop strong mathematical skills which are reflected in my results Maths has also helped me develop problem solving skills through applied maths trigonometry proofs I have always preferred mechanics/applied maths, as it links to Physics, for example Newton's Law, which applies in areas in Engineering, especially structures
  • Risk assessment and safety; statistics and probability modules have taught me the importance of ensuring things are accurate and safe
  • Physics A-level my knowledge on stress and strain that I have gained from physics, I know the importance of it in terms of designing structures that withstand forces, without collapsing
  • Stress analysis techniques; my knowledge on stress and strain that I have gained from physics, I know the importance of it in terms of designing structures that withstand forces, without collapsing It has also helped my understanding of the practical side of how things work through the topic forces in motion, such as ensuring the stability of a structure
  • Communication skills; Philosophical debates and class discussions in Religious Studies have helped me to voice my own opinion, while also understanding others viewpoints and taking them into consideration
  • Team Building & Leadership skills; I lead a band for the Methodist Church in Ireland which I am currently committed to them for 3 years Through planning and organising events to working with the people in the band, I have learned what it means to respect others while also being authoritative when I need to I have also learned how to balance extra-curricular, school and this band well while maintaining a good work ethic in all aspects This is reflected in my success in school while also gaining experience from bronze, silver and gold Duke of Edinburgh, and also staying committed to the band and my other extra-curricular activities
  • I am also a STEM Ambassador, specifically for Maths and Physics Throughout the last two years I have been able to show kids how STEM is not just restricted to medicine of scientific studies, but also for Engineering, and how they can contribute positively to the world's sustainability and protect it's environment This has been incredibly rewarding and has grown my passion for wanting to become an Engineer

Affiliations

  • While I have a passion for more STEM subjects, I also enjoy music through composing pieces and singing in choirs such as the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland. This has helped me develop my creativity.
