Work history

Telecommunications engineer

Openreach
North Wales, North Wales
04.2022 - Current
  • I have an extremely good reputation in all the teams I have worked with. I am known as the hardest worker, the one to call if you need poles climbing or cable pulling in.
  • I uphold very high standards when I dress poles or build new fibre nodes, I find it satisfying to see the high standards and it makes me want to keep them.
  • During 2024 myself and a colleague were in charge of the Tregaron build, the clerk retired and passed all his knowledge to us. We were mere jointers and were thrown in the deep end. We had to survey PONS, build PONS, test PONS and submit them all ourselves. On occasion we had others join us and they always turned to me for the work. I received many commendations during my time there. At the end of the year we had bypassed other builds in Pembrokeshire and were massively ahead of schedule to the point where we went to help others.
  • I am an extremely quick learner who will never shy away from the jobs no one wants to do, I take pleasure in doing things no one wants as this only builds my good reputation.
  • I can also problem solve and discover new solutions if there ever was a problem. During my time as "not official clerk" in Tregaron I spent a lot of time uncovering solutions to problems and saving the company money by avoiding the need for civil engineers.

Land maintenance

Gary Soltus
Llwyndafydd , Ceredigion
06.2021 - 04.2022
  • My daily activities as a Land maintainer was strimming, mowing, hedge cutting, chopping wood, digging and planting trees, building pathways and bird hide, keeping all footways clear of debris, keeping all hedge rows tide, racking up old grass to keep the growing grass alive, feeding animals, pond maintenance (weeding).
  • This work taught me the care and standards I hold today, being in the presence of customers on a daily basis meant I had to keep the grounds clean and tidy. It taught me to have standards to my work.
  • This job was physical but that didn't stop me from delivering on all my tasks and even over delivering.
  • Over time as I carried out some of the same tasks I managed to get quicker but still uphold my standards.
  • I managed the land that has 4 houses and a caravan site.

Dairy farmer

Ruth Rees
Synnod Inn, Ceredigion
02.2016 - 04.2022
  • During my time employed here I had many tasks which developed my hard working attitude.
  • I learned the need to have an "on the go" mindset as there was never time to relax, there was always work to be done.
  • The shifts were long, early hours to very late hours, some cases this left no more than 4 hours to sleep during end of shift and start of shift.
  • This experience has highly contributed to who I am now. If it wasn't for this role I would not be the hard working person I am now. It taught me to problem solve, to do jobs no one wants to do, get the job done and to keep going.
  • Many people currently tell me to slow down but this is the way I am wired and I think this is one of my BIGGEST advantages.
  • I also went on a few courses to develop my skills in the farming world as I was intrigued by becoming a farm manager and I wanted to improve the skills I had to show I was capable.
